4449 Adventures on the Montana Rail Link/DVD
In October 2004 Southern Pacific 4-8-4 #4449 powered a passenger train over the Montana Rail Link from Sandpoint, Idaho to Billings, Montana and return, Machines of Iron was on hand to bring you this spectacular event.
4449 Journey & Nightlight 2 DVD Set/DVD
4449 Journey: Portland is proud of its showpiece of railroad history --- the 4449. We caught this spectacular locomotive and its train on an excursion out of Portland and on its way to Stampede Pass. Follow the 4449 through the beautiful Pacific Northwest, which provides a spectacular backdrop for one of the world's most favorite trains. A great train and a great locale ---what more could you want? 4449 Nightlight: Southern Pacific's 4449 Daylight was painted black and became 4449 "Nightlight" for the BNSF Employee Appreciation Special. Machines of Iron followed the special across the Pacific Northwest to bring you this spectacular video. Scenes in and around Vancouver, WA, the Columbia River Bridge, Spokane Bridge, Sandpoint, ID, Horse Thief Lake, and the Cascade Locks are among the highlights of this show. 4449 fireman Jack Wheelihan takes us on a tour of the 4449 cab and Doyle McCormick gives us the story on the "black" 4449.
California 1999 Rail Adventure/DVD
Our video crews bring you the best coverage of all the festivities of Railfair 99 and the NRHS & R&LHS convention. Mainline trips are featured including the 844's high speed trip to and from Tehama. Our highly experienced camera crews traveled the length of California and into Oregon to follow the big locomotives including Santa Fe 3751, Southern Pacific 4449, and the Union Pacific's 844 and 3985 as they roamed through the West.
Durango & Silverton Battles the Snow/BD
Durango, Colorado was buried under 36 inches of snow following several storms that had passed through the San Juan Mountains, the week of January 17, 2010. The railroad was snowed in. Cuts north of Rockwood were filled with snow, and a number of snow slides had run between Rockwood and Cascade Canyon. Machines of Iron was there to show you how the flanger train and the maintenance of way crews and their equipment handled the snow.

Durango & Silverton Railfest/DVD
August on the Durango and Silverton Railroad means Railfest, a special time in late summer that features historic railroad equipment like the Galloping Goose and the Eureka and Palisade steam locomotive #4, circa 1875. This historic equipment is combined with the Durango and Silverton’s regular trains that travel the scenic Animas River Canyon to Silverton. Historians, musicians, and artists present their work and tours of the facilities are included. Enjoy the beauty of the San Juan mountains while riding and photographing this authentic narrow gauge railroad.
Last Run of the Amador Central/DVD
A local freight railroad which ran 11.79 miles between a connection with the Southern Pacific at Ione to Martell, California, the Amador Central was run and operated by the Georgia Pacific Lumber Company. With outbound traffic of lumber and forest products, this railroad served as an important source of transportation. But in 1997, the plant and the railroad were sold, the plant was converted for particle board manufacturing, and the railroad eventually closed. We follow the last few days of operation on the Amador Central to its last day of service on March 28, 1997.
McCloud Railway/DVD
The McCloud offers it all. Located in Northern California in the shadow of Mt. Shasta, the McCloud Railway's busy freight operation carries lumber in this heavily forested area. But there's more. A steam excursion, running year round, makes this a popular tourist railroad as well. Nothing is quite like seeing, or riding aboard, the steam train in the deep winter snow. But then again, the summer dinner train does offer its own advantages.
Northwestern Pacific - Volume 1/DVD
The Northwestern Pacific has served as an important rail link in Northern California since 1907. After a brief absence during which the California Northern ran on the line from Willits to Schellville, the Northwestern Pacific made a comeback in 1996. Join us for the celebration festivities which included a three-day excursion in June 1996 and follow freight movements north and south over the line. Volume 1 explores the southern portion of the line, where trains traverse steep grades and glide through pastoral landscapes.
Pacific Harbor Line/DVD
The Pacific Harbor Line services the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach with rail transportation, maintenance, and dispatching. The PHL switches over 25,000 units of carload freight annually and also provides switching services for several intermodal port customers including SeaLand, K-Line, Evergreen America, Maersk, and NYK Line. Pacific Harbor Line has ten locomotives in its roster including GP7s, SD-18s, and SW1200s. Company headquarters and locomotive servicing facilities are located in Wilmington, CA. The PHL connects to and dispatches all Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Union Pacific trains in the port zone.
Rotary on the Cumbres & Toltec/DVD
Nothing is more exciting than seeing a steam-powered rotary snow plow at work! Come along for a visit to the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad for a taste of what this fine machinery can do. We’ll follow the rotary OY with its train from Chama, New Mexico to Cumbres Pass on the former Denver and Rio Grande narrow gauge line. This video tape was shot over two heavy winters.
Sierra Railroad & Sierra Iron Horse Roundup 2 DVD Set/DVD
Sierra Railroad: The Sierra Railroad is like getting two railroads in one --- the Sierra Railroad which carries freight, and Railtown 1897 Historic Park which is run by the State of California. The freight railroad operates with Baldwin S12 diesel locomotives. Railtown operates former Sierra Railway steam locomotives, two of which are an 1892 Rogers-built 4-6-0 and a Lima-built 3-truck Shay. You'll see both the steam and diesel power in this look at the Sierra. Sierra Iron Horse Roundup: On Labor Day weekend 2001, the Sierra Railroad held its first steam festival. The Iron Horse Roundup. The Sierra #28, 1 2-8-0 Baldwin and Mason County #7 were the stars of the show. Former Southern Pacific #2467 a 4-6-2 Baldwin is also featured. There's a foot race between runners and a steam locomotive, hand car races, garden railways, and much more.
SP&S 700/DVD
Machines of Iron crews followed the SP&S #700 on four trips over an eleven year span of time. In 1990, the 700 was a hit at the Central Washington Steamfest '90 carrying passengers from Portland to Pasco and Yakima to Ellensburg. In July 1999, the locomotive traveled between Portland and Hillsboro as the Portland and Western #700. We followed the 700 on a shake down trip in February 2001 between Vancouver and Longview.
Steam Returns to Vermont/DVD
In late July and early August 1998, New York, Susquehanna & Western 2-8-2 #142 returned steam to Vermont to power the Green Mountain Flyer between Bellows Falls and Chester. It weas the first public excursion headed by steam power in Vermont since 1983, and it was reason for a celebration. Join us for steam in the Green Mountain State.

Yolo Shortline/DVD
The Yolo Shortline is both a working freight railroad and an excursion railroad. Machines of Iron traveled along on one of Yolo's train and cruise excursions. Visitors board the train behind a former Southern Pacific steam locomotive for a trip through the beautiful Sacramento Valley. A train robbery is staged for the passengers and a great time is had by all. Those who desire can then board a steamboat traveling on the Sacramento River and enjoy a good meal and onboard entertainment.
