Cuts north of Rockwood were filled with snow, and a number of snow slides had run between Rockwood and Cascade Canyon. Last Run of the Amador Central/DVD

A local freight railroad which ran 11.79 miles between a connection with the Southern Pacific at Ione to Martell, California, the Amador Central was run and operated by the Georgia Pacific Lumber Company. With outbound traffic of lumber and forest products, this railroad served as an important source of transportation. But in 1997, the plant and the railroad were sold, the plant was converted for particle board manufacturing, and the railroad eventually closed. We follow the last few days of operation on the Amador Central to its last day of service on March 28, 1997.

Pacific Harbor Line has ten locomotives in its roster including GP7s, SD-18s, and SW1200s. Company headquarters and locomotive servicing facilities are located in Wilmington, CA. Sierra Railroad: The Sierra Railroad is like getting two railroads in one --- the Sierra Railroad which carries freight, and Railtown 1897 Historic Park which is run by the State of California. The freight railroad operates with Baldwin S12 diesel locomotives. Railtown operates former Sierra Railway steam locomotives, two of which are an 1892 Rogers-built 4-6-0 and a Lima-built 3-truck Shay. You'll see both the steam and diesel power in this look at the Sierra. Sierra Iron Horse Roundup: On Labor Day weekend 2001, the Sierra Railroad held its first steam festival. The Iron Horse Roundup. The Sierra #28, 1 2-8-0 Baldwin and Mason County #7 were the stars of the show. Former Southern Pacific #2467 a 4-6-2 Baldwin is also featured. There's a foot race between runners and a steam locomotive, hand car races, garden railways, and much more.
 
SP&S 700/DVD

Machines of Iron crews followed the SP&S #700 on four trips over an eleven year span of time. In 1990, the 700 was a hit at the Central Washington Steamfest '90 carrying passengers from Portland to Pasco and Yakima to Ellensburg. In July 1999, the locomotive traveled between Portland and Hillsboro as the Portland and Western #700. We followed the 700 on a shake down trip in February 2001 between Vancouver and Longview.

Visitors board the train behind a former Southern Pacific steam locomotive for a trip through the beautiful Sacramento Valley.
